Bulgarian Yogurt Cookies
Yogurt Cookies 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup ground hazelnuts
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
dash of ground cloves
pinch of salt
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1 teaspoon orange extract
Combine flour, hazelnuts, baking soda, cloves, and salt; set aside.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Beat in yogurt and orange extract
Gradually add in the dry ingredients.
Cover and chill overnight.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Lightly grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper.
Roll dough into 1-1/2" balls and place on cookie sheet about 2 " apart.
Bake 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Transfer to wire racks to cool.
Makes about 2 dozen
